What is badugi poker?

Poker is one of the most popular card games around the world, and today it has several varieties. And first and foremost we need to highlight Badugi, which many call one of the most unconventional.  This game comes from Asia, and here even pairs of cards are very different, so you need to understand all the features.

First and foremost, it’s important to say that here you don’t have to form combinations to win. That is, everything is more unusual and you need to refer to the rules and understand how everything works.

How to play?

The rules of the game are very interesting and eye-catching. That is, you need to make an effort to master them. You can compare this type of game with 2 7 Triple Draw. Of course, it is not without its own distinctive features. First and foremost, the player is dealt 4 cards.

By the rules, the game is played with blinds and the dealer, and the sequence is as follows:

1. The dealer dealt the cards.
2. After that comes the first round of bidding, and it starts with the player who sits to the left of the player who has the BB. The rules say that the game is played with a fixed limit, and a small bet is used for the first two players, and a high bet for the remaining players. In most cases the big blind is equal to twice the amount of the small blind.
3. After this there is an exchange of cards. The player can either trade the remaining cards or keep his own. The peculiarity is that any number of cards can be exchanged. This sequence of haggling and changing cards is done three times.

At the end of the round the players who stayed in the game and didn’t discard their cards show their own combinations. The player who has the higher hand gets the pot.

Hand combinations in Badugi Poker

As far as sequences are concerned, you should pay special attention to them. They are ranked by the number of cards that form the player’s final set.

1. 4 cards are badugas, i.e. the maximum set.
2. 3 cards.
3. 2 cards.
4. And the weakest combination of just 1 card.

Of course, there can be a situation where the combination is identical. This happens in any of the varieties of poker, and the winner is the player who has the stronger card. That is, the idea is to make a set from the highest card to the lowest card in their hierarchy.  For example, a card combination of 9-8-3-2 will be stronger than 10-5-4-2. And an important feature of the game is the fact that Ace is the lowest card.

At the end of the game, after the last round, the winner is the player who has collected the highest combination. For example, a player has collected three Jacks and a King, i.e. a J-K combination, but it is crucial to look at the suits.  Ace to 4 of the same suit is the maximum sequence.
